More information regarding the schedule and meeting point of the first/last day will be provided after booking.

day 1

view of Cairo with the Nile

CAIRO

Welcome to Cairo, the capital of Egypt! Our adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6:00 PM. Cairo is one of the great ancient cities and its history can be symbolized by two imposing landmarks: the Pyramids of Giza and the Mosque of Mohammed Ali. Free time available and overnight stay at the hotel.
There are no meals included on this day. Airport transfer not included. Optional activities not included.

day 2

Egyptian palace with palms

CAIRO

After breakfast, we set off to see some of the most famous sites in Egypt. Visit the pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza, immediately recognizable yet still retaining their charm and power. There is the optional chance to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu at an additional cost. Later we visit the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world's largest collections of antiquities. Later in the evening, we travel by overnight train to Aswan (the journey will take about 13 hours).
Breakfast and dinner included, lunch on your own. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is occasionally closed to visitors. The complex can be very hot during the summer months, so be prepared for the limited shade available and pack appropriate clothing, sun protection, and water, and be ready to walk. There is an additional charge of 50 EGP to take photos in the Egyptian Museum.

day 3

River Nile with Egyptian ruins

Aswan

Welcome to Aswan, the southernmost city of Egypt. Its laid-back charm is largely due to its sizable Nubian population. Today is a day off, so we can take the opportunity to visit the unfinished obelisk or the high dam. The Nubian bazaar is a must, while the excellent Nubian Museum tops the list for many visitors. Highly recommended is the beautiful Temple of Isis (the goddess of health, marriage, and wisdom) which was saved from the rising waters of the Nile and moved to the island of Philae. The waterfront, or Corniche of Aswan, runs along one of the most enchanting stretches of the Nile and is the perfect place to stop for a mint tea.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Optional activities not included.

day 4

palace with bas-reliefs

Aswan

This morning is our best chance to head out from Aswan and visit the magnificent Abu Simbel, if we wish. With the four gigantic statues of Ramses guarding the Great Temple, this is one of Egypt's most unforgettable sites. Otherwise, the day is free. A popular afternoon option is a sailboat ride around the islands on a traditional felucca, stopping at the botanical gardens on Kitchener's Island. Alternatively, we can take a camel ride to the Monastery of St. Simeon, a 7th-century abandoned fortress located in the desert on the west bank of the Nile. Lastly, we may simply choose to go shopping in the bazaar or relax and enjoy the beauty of the Nile.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner on your own. Optional activities not included. Please note that the optional Abu Simbel activity starts very early: departure will be between 5:00 and 6:00 AM. You can get there by plane or by the more economical option of renting a minivan with a group and leaving very early (flights do not operate every day). The land journey is 3 hours each way. It is best to visit at dawn to avoid the heat.

day 5

sailing dinghy on the Nile

DENIAL

This morning we embark on a traditional Egyptian sailing boat, or felucca, for a sail on the Nile River until lunchtime. Here we will learn about the local lifestyle with a walk through the surrounding countryside and agricultural fields to reach a local family who will host us for the night. The house is in traditional Nubian style, with a sandy courtyard in the center where the family gathers for meals and bedrooms on the sides: this is where we will stay overnight.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included, excursions included.

day 6

typical Nile landscape with red hills

DENIAL

Our tour continues and we board another felucca to enjoy a day on the river watching the daily rural Egyptian life unfold along the banks of the Nile. Watching the sunset from the felucca is an experience we won't forget! Overnight stay on the felucca.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included, excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 7

Luxor ruins

LUXOR

Our journey continues with a private minivan to Luxor (about 3 hours). We explore the magnificent Karnak Temple, which is perhaps the most impressive of all the monumental works of the ancient pharaohs. One of the most celebrated temple complexes in the world, Karnak is a house of gods built over a period of about 200 years. Your guided tour of this vast temple with its towering pillars, obelisks, and chapels will reveal its most beautiful sections, such as the Avenue of the Sphinxes and the Great Temple of Amun. The rest of the day will be free to relax, shop in the bazaar (open until late), or perhaps experience the atmosphere of a local tea house.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included, excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 8

Karnak attraction

LUXOR

This morning we get up early and head towards the Valley of the Kings. Buried beneath the arid hills are over 60 tombs of pharaohs, richly decorated with reliefs and paintings. We visit three of the most interesting royal tombs and then continue to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, an extraordinary colonnaded building set against high cliffs that create a spectacular natural amphitheater.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included, excursions included. Optional activities not included. You can purchase a ticket that will allow you to take photos in any of the three tombs you will visit as part of your tour. The cost of the ticket is about EGP 300.

day 9

Hurghada Mosque

HURGHADA

This morning we are heading to the city on the beach of Hurghada (about a 5-hour journey). Today's destination is a lively seaside resort where we can relax! After checking into the hotel, we take a walk to explore the surroundings.
Breakfast and dinner included, lunch not provided. Transfers included.

day 10

beach with straw umbrellas

HURGHADA

This morning we depart from the marina of Hurghada and board your motor yacht for a journey around the Red Sea Marine Park, where we will have the opportunity to snorkel in one of the most magnificent coral reefs of the Red Sea: lovely fan corals and colorful fish await us! Snorkeling equipment is provided. Lunch will consist of a delicious feast of kofta, salads, fish, and rice, and soft drinks, tea, and coffee are provided throughout the day. We return to Hurghada in the middle of the late afternoon and back to the hotel.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 11

river in Cairo with seagull

CAIRO

Our journey of discovery in Egypt continues towards Cairo with a private minivan. Once we arrive at our destination, we visit the Islamic areas of the city and the bustling backstreets of the local Khan el-Khalili bazaar with our group leader. The "Khan" is one of the largest and oldest markets in the world, sprawling around an ancient area known as Al-Azhar, a labyrinth of alleys with stalls that serve up a succession of heady scenes and a quintessentially Cairene experience. We might explore the gold market, "Perfume Street" and the spice market, where intoxicating aromas hang in the air like a thick damask fabric.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 12

Alexandria's seafront promenade

ALEXANDRIA OF EGYPT

Our journey in Egypt continues in a private minivan towards the city of Alexandria (about a 3-hour drive). The second-largest city in Egypt and the main port, the locals call this vibrant city the bride of the Mediterranean Sea. Upon arrival, we take an orientation tour. The city, which immortalizes the name of Alexander, quickly became an important cultural, intellectual, political, and economic metropolis.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Optional activities not included.

day 13

Alexandria, Egypt skyline

ALEXANDRIA OF EGYPT

We return to a more recent period of Egyptian history with a visit to El Alamein and the war museum. El Alamein is located on the Mediterranean Sea, 106 kilometers west of Alexandria, Egypt and played a significant role in major battles of World War II. In the museum, discover the history of the events that took place here.
Breakfast and lunch included, dinner on your own. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 14

pyramid with sphinx

CAIRO

This morning we are going to explore the mysteries of the catacombs of Kom Ash Shuqqafa. This Roman burial site is the largest of its kind in Egypt and was discovered, almost by chance, by an unfortunate donkey. The crypts are located 20 meters below street level and what probably began as a small family tomb has turned into a labyrinth of chambers that could accommodate more than 300 bodies. Next, we head to the El Morsi Abu El Abbas Mosque, the largest in the city. We will then leave Alexandria of Egypt and return to the Cairo (about 5 hours), arriving around 4:00 PM. The afternoon is dedicated to free time to spend as you wish.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included, optional activities not included.
