day 1

CAIRO

Welcome to Egypt! Our adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 4:00 PM this afternoon. For those arriving early, why not take a walk to get your bearings in the neighborhood, or escape the hustle and bustle and explore the Coptic Christian sector? After the meeting, we can choose to discover the Khan al-Khalili Bazaar, located in the Islamic center of Cairo. This traditional souk is a labyrinth of narrow alleys lined with local merchants; a perfect place to be introduced to everyday Egyptian life! Overnight stay at the hotel.
There are no meals included on this day. Airport transfer not included. Excursions included. Optional activities and visits not included.

day 2

sphinx with pyramid

CAIRO

This morning we head to Giza, home to some of the world's most iconic sites, the location of the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx by camelback, with panoramic views over the dunes. There is the option, at an additional cost, to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu (it may occasionally be closed to visitors). Afterwards, we proceed to the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world's largest collections of antiquities. Later in the evening, we set off for Aswan on an overnight train (about 13 hours).
Breakfast and dinner included. Lunch is not included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities and visits not included. Please note that the inner passages of the Pyramids of Giza are very small and very hot, so it is not recommended for those who suffer from claustrophobia. Keep in mind that you will be required to walk around the Pyramid complex. It can get very hot during the summer months, so prepare for little shade and pack appropriate clothing, sun protection, and bring plenty of water. Please note that there is an additional charge of 50 EGP for taking photos in the museum.

day 3

ASWAN

Welcome to Aswan, the southernmost city of Egypt. Its laid-back charm is largely due to its sizable Nubian population. Today is a day off, so we can take the opportunity to visit the unfinished obelisk or the high dam. The Nubian bazaar is a must, while the excellent Nubian Museum tops the list for many visitors. Highly recommended is the beautiful Temple of Isis (the goddess of health, marriage, and wisdom) which was saved from the rising waters of the Nile and moved to the island of Philae. The waterfront, or Corniche of Aswan, runs along one of the most enchanting stretches of the Nile and is the perfect place to stop for a mint tea. This evening we will experience firsthand the modern Nubian culture with a visit to a nearby village.
Breakfast and dinner included. Lunch not included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities and visits not included. The optional activities mentioned today refer to either admission OR to organized tour programs facilitated by the group leader.

ASWAN

Our journey to discover Egypt continues! We can choose to visit the magnificent Abu Simbel. With the four colossal statues of Ramses guarding the Great Temple, carved directly into the mountain on the west bank of the Nile, this is one of Egypt's most memorable places! Keep in mind that this optional activity starts very early (but it's absolutely worth it). There are two ways to get there: a 40-minute flight or renting a minivan with the group and leaving very early. The land journey takes 3-4 hours each way, with an early departure from Aswan at 4 in the morning. Alternatively, we could take a sailing trip around the islands on a traditional felucca, stopping at the botanical gardens on Kitchener's Island. Or, take a camel ride to the Monastery of St. Simeon, a 7th-century abandoned fortress monastery located in the desert on the Nile's West Bank. Otherwise, we can choose to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Nile or go shopping in the local bazaar.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Excursions and optional activities not included.

day 5

beauty of the nile

NILE

Morning dedicated to leisure time. We can choose to visit the Tombs of the Nobles. Then we board the Felucca on the river Nile. We have the opportunity to spend the afternoon on the river observing the daily Egyptian life unfolding on the banks. Here we dine and stay overnight.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included. Conditions will be basic during your felucca journey. If you are prepared for this, you will certainly have a memorable adventure. You will sleep outside on the deck of the felucca on a mattress. While blankets are provided, a sheet or sleeping bag is recommended. During the colder months (from October to March) temperatures can drop to 5°C at night. Slight changes to the Nile itinerary may be necessary throughout the year, depending on winds and currents. Since the felucca is a sailboat without an outboard motor, if there's no wind, you won't go very far. The felucca has a shared bathroom on board. Feluccas have mosquito nets when requested, we recommend an insect repellent for your day on the Nile.

day 6

archaeological finds in the sharp light of the sun

LUXOR

This morning we leave with a private minivan to visit the "open-air museum" of Luxor (about a 3.5-hour journey). From the spectacular Karnak temple complex to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor is full of wonderfully preserved memories of the Pharaohs. Along the way, there's the chance to visit the unique mirror design of the Kom Ombo Temple or the beautifully preserved Edfu Temple. This afternoon we explore the magnificent Karnak temple, which is perhaps the most imposing of all the monumental works of the ancient pharaohs. One of the most celebrated temple complexes in the world, Karnak is a house of the gods built over a period of about 200 years. The rest of the day will be free to relax, shop in the bazaar, open until late.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 7

sunset on the nile

LUXOR

Our journey in Egypt continues aboard a private minivan to discover the wonders of ancient Thebes. The first stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two 17-meter-tall statues on the west bank of Luxor. We proceed to the spectacular royal burial site of the Valley of the Kings. Buried beneath the arid hills here are over 60 richly decorated pharaohs' tombs. We join a local family for lunch to try traditional home cooking. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the surroundings. In the evening, we board an overnight train that takes us to Cairo (about a 10-hour journey).
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included. Please note that there is a surcharge of 300 EGP for taking photos in the Valley of the Kings. You can take a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings and the Temples of Antiquity in the West Bank. Your Leader can book this service for you. We use Dream Balloons in Luxor. Pickup will be from your hotel between 04:30 and 05:00; the balloon's capacity is 16-25; Cameras are prohibited in the basket, but mobile phones are allowed. The activity is subject to weather conditions. Card payment is possible and incurs a bank fee of 3%.

Important things to know

Trip features

Journey open to travelers with no age restrictions.
You will travel with travelers from other agencies: the larger the group, the more fun it is!
The trip is organized by tour operators and local guides, selected by Tramundi for you.

General trip information

A single supplement is available if you prefer not to share a room during this trip. The single supplement excludes Day 5 (Felucca) and Days 2,7 (Overnight train) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability.
This journey ends upon arrival in Cairo on the 8th. Please do not book any flights until after 3:00 PM this evening in case of delays.
Traveling on a felucca (a traditional wooden boat) is fantastic, but it's not for everyone. At night, you'll share a sleeping area with your group mates and a communal bathroom. You'll sleep outdoors, under the stars, on a simple mattress, with some sheets provided. If you get cold, consider bringing a sleeping bag with you.
The areas around many of the Egyptian ruins can be uneven, dusty, and rocky, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. In larger sites, like the Valley of the Kings, you can also expect to walk in the elements for most of the day, so adequate sun protection is essential.
Some hotels in Egypt might not have elevators. You may have to climb the stairs with your luggage to reach your hotel room for the night.
Temperatures in Egypt can be extreme, ranging from very hot to very cold, depending on the season - in some places it can even snow! Layers are useful for protection from the sun and for keeping warm.
Overnight train journeys are a fast way to cover long distances, better for the environment, and a great travel experience. You'll share air-conditioned two-bed cabins with all bed linen provided and Western-style sanitary facilities on board.
Remember to bring a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the time of entry into the country.
We ask you to report any food allergies and/or intolerances immediately after booking.
The itinerary may undergo some changes before and/or during the trip.
