KOTA KINABALU

We welcome you to Borneo! Your adventure begins in Kota Kinabalu, the vibrant capital of the state of Sabah. Your welcome meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM this evening. If you have some free time beforehand, we recommend immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the local markets or discovering the indigenous cultures of the region at the Sabah Museum. Kota Kinabalu is famous for its culinary scene, so why not take the opportunity to dine with your new travel companions at a local restaurant this evening? Your leader will be able to recommend the best restaurants.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner not included. Transfers not included. Excursions not included. Flight not included.

day 2

Kiulu village panorama

KIULU VILLAGE

After enjoying our breakfast this morning, we'll set off for Pukak in the enchanting Kiulu Valley, renowned for the lush bamboo that adorns the riverbanks. This will be our starting point for the hike to Kampung Ratau (Ratau Village), where we'll spend the night immersed in local life. In the afternoon, following our hike, we'll have the chance to partake in various cultural activities. We'll learn the art of beadwork, join the group for a traditional fishing session, take part in a cooking class to discover how to prepare local dishes (which we'll then savor for dinner), and attend a lesson on the Gong, a typical musical instrument. In our traditional bamboo hut, we'll drift off to sleep to the tranquil sounds of the village and surrounding nature.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
The hiking time will be about 3 hours.
The bamboo huts tonight are basic, equipped with mosquito net, mattress, sheet, and pillow. The sanitary facilities are shared and the showers only have cold water. We recommend bringing a travel towel if you wish to use the showers at this destination, as they will not be provided in the village.

Mount Kundasang trekking

KIULU VILLAGE - KUNDASANG

Today we will start the day with breakfast in the picturesque village, before continuing our trek through the rural Kiulu, heading towards Lokub. Upon our arrival, we will have the opportunity to witness a traditional cultural dance and a Dusun martial arts performance during lunch. Afterwards, we will move with a private vehicle towards Kundasang, located under the shadow of Mount Kinabalu. Once there, we will take a well-deserved rest after the two-day trek, or we might take a walk in the quiet town to enjoy the mountain views before dinner.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
The travel time is about 2 hours.
The hike will last about 4 hours.

After enjoying breakfast, we will head towards Sepilok, a fascinating place located on the edge of a protected rainforest and mangrove area, famous for its orangutan rehabilitation center. In the afternoon, we'll have the opportunity to explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre, considered the most educational natural park in Malaysia. Here, a suspended walkway 28 meters high and 620 meters long will offer us breathtaking views of the giant trees of the rainforest. As the sun sets, we will join a local ranger for a guided walk in the surroundings. This place comes alive after dark, and we will have the chance to observe numerous nocturnal birds flying above us. Don't forget to keep an eye out for slow lorises, tarsiers, and flying squirrels! Tonight, we will rest in a lodge nestled in the jungle, surrounded by lush greenery and pristine nature.
Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner not included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
The journey will take about 5 hours.

day 5

Kinabatangan river

RIVER KINABATANGAN

This morning after a tasty breakfast we will visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and meet the most adorable 'redheads' of the world. These beautiful and quirky animals will steal your heart as you watch them go about their daily activities (eating bananas and hanging upside down). Stop by the nursery where the young orangutans learn to climb on a specially built jungle gym and snap a selfie with them, if you can! Later, we will spend some time at the Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where the staff rescues and cares for previously mistreated sun bears with the hope of rehabilitating them and reintroducing them into the wild. Recharge with a lunch and then head to the lodge in the jungle near the banks of the Kinabatangan River. After settling into the lodge, we will go on a river cruise. Keep your eyes peeled for spotting wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and maybe even some pygmy elephants!
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.

day 6

Kinabatagan river and boats

RIVER KINABATANGAN

This morning, we wake up to the sounds of the jungle and have breakfast before setting off for the first of two cruises on the Kinabatangan River planned for today. We keep our eyes wide open, we might be lucky enough to spot short-tailed and long-tailed macaques, a variety of birds, including hornbills and kingfishers, crocodiles or reptiles such as snakes and frogs. After a light lunch, we return to the water to continue our search for wildlife and jungle scenery along the river's waters. This evening, we take a night walk with our guide, looking for nocturnal birds, insects, and other wildlife that comes alive after sunset. We dine together with our group at the lodge.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.

day 7

big American ships

After enjoying today's breakfast, bid farewell to your jungle oasis and set off towards the western coast of Sabah. It's quite a long journey, so bring along your favorite book or some travel games. Your destination is Usukan Cove, a picturesque bay on the coast of Kota Belud. You will spend the night in a cozy lodge, located on one of the eight beaches that adorn the bay. If you're lucky, you might even be able to enjoy a spectacular sunset before tonight's group dinner.

As soon as we arrive on this enchanting island, we dive into our first snorkeling adventure right from the beach, where we will have the opportunity to observe fish of a thousand colors, sea turtles, and rays. Later, we move to the pontoon for another snorkeling session, this time to admire the spectacular corals and the rich marine life that hides beneath the water's surface. After these exciting activities, we stop at another beach for a group lunch and to recharge our energies. In the afternoon, we will have time to relax on the beach and enjoy the sun. If you wish, you can go for another snorkeling dive from the beach, before returning to our guesthouse in the late afternoon.
