day 1

nairobi

NAIROBI

Welcome to Kenya. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6:00 PM tonight in Nairobi. If you arrive early, why not visit the National Museum of Kenya, the Karen Blixen Museum, or the highly recommended Bomas of Kenya where the traditional dwellings of some Kenyan tribes are displayed in an open-air village. After your meeting tonight, perhaps go out for an optional welcome dinner with your new travel companions.
Meals included. Flight not included. It's important to attend the welcome meeting to provide insurance details and relatives' contacts. If you're running late, inform your travel agent or the hotel reception. Ask the reception or look for a note in the lobby to find out where the meeting will take place.
In Nairobi, petty thefts are common. Keep your valuables on you, perhaps in a money belt. Use the hotel safe if available. Before exploring, ask locals for advice on safe areas, especially at night. Do not leave bags unattended and maintain a confident and vigilant demeanor. Scan and email yourself important travel documents.

day 2

Maasai

MAASAI OF THE LOITA HILLS

Depart from Nairobi this morning, stopping at Narok along the way to do some shopping. Today's journey crosses the Great Rift Valley, the massive watershed of Africa, to the remote Loita Hills region. This is the home of the Maasai people, and when you arrive, you'll grab something to eat and then visit the Maasai, known for their dazzling red attire and elaborate jewelry. Get an overview of the culture and ancient customs of this proud East African community. A local elder will give a fascinating talk about the Maasai and what they stand for. You will also be shown a traditional Maasai house and see where the resident cattle are kept.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
Today's travel time will be around 6 hours.
Upgrades and Wi-Fi will not be available at the campsite tonight.

day 3

Masai Mara

MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Travel from Loita Hills to Masai Mara today. The Masai Mara is one of the classic African experiences: vast plains, perfect blue skies, and some of the world's largest wildlife. After setting up camp, sit down for lunch. Then, it's time to jump aboard your 4WD vehicle and head out for a safari into the wilds of the Mara.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
Today's travel time will be about 2 hours.
The campsite where we will sleep tonight is located outside the national reserve and has bathrooms and showers with drainage. There is the possibility of an upgrade, depending on availability. Wi-Fi is not available.

day 4

Masai Mara

MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Embark on a full-day adventure in the reserve for a 4x4 safari. You will explore this diverse environment and will most likely see a lot of different wildlife. An optional hot air balloon ride over the Mara at dawn is worth considering. If you have booked this optional activity, you will be picked up before dawn and taken to the launch site for a safety briefing by your pilot. Then, glide through the sunrise, sometimes at treetop height, which offers incredible photographic opportunities. Sometimes you will ascend, gaining an overview of the vastness of the plains and the morning movements of the teeming herds. After landing, you will be offered a bush breakfast, then you will return to your camp to meet your group. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 5

Lake Victoria

LAKE VICTORIA

Travel to the border between Kenya and Tanzania and to the shores of Lake Victoria. This is not just the largest lake in Africa – it's also the world's largest tropical lake. It shares its shores with Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. You will arrive in the late afternoon, with time to relax by the lake with a cool drink at sunset. Take advantage of the ATM and local market to stock up for your next three days of adventures in the wild. Tonight, you will camp on the lake's shores, at one of the least visited campsites on the outskirts of a small town called Musoma, away from the tourist routes.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
Today's travel time will be around 8 hours.
Tonight the campsite will be equipped with Wi-Fi and, depending on availability, you might have the chance to book a higher category room.

day 6

Sergeant National Park

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Today you will travel from Lake Victoria to the entrance of the Serengeti National Park on a smooth road. Stop for a picnic lunch at the park entrance, then enter the Serengeti and begin your off-road vehicle safari towards the campsite. These plains – green after the rain and brown and scorched in the dry season – are home to thousands of hoofed animals and fierce predators, so try to count as many as you can! Your campsite is right in the heart of the action, inside the park itself, so listen to the sounds of the nocturnal animals as you fall asleep tonight.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
Today's travel time will be about 3 hours.
Your camp in the Serengeti National Park has no fences, allowing buffalo and hyenas to approach after sunset, providing an exciting experience. Your leader will provide a detailed safety briefing for the group. There is no Wi-Fi or upgrade options available.

day 7

Sergeant National Park

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Start your day with an off-road safari at dawn. You'll leave when the animals are most active, then return to camp for brunch. After spending the hottest part of the day relaxing as the animals do, you'll head out again in the afternoon for another adventure in the wild. You'll be back in time for dinner. There's also the option of a hot air balloon ride at dawn, so if you haven't done one in the Mara, today is your chance!
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.
The hot air balloon ride needs to be booked in advance to ensure a spot. If you prefer to wait and book locally to look for a better price, you can do so, but keep in mind that it's a very popular activity with limited availability.

day 8

karatu

KARATU

Wake up and shine for one last chance to spot the wildlife of the Serengeti as you leave the park this morning. At the Nabi gate, board a jeep and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. This perfectly intact gigantic volcanic crater is home to about 30,000 animals. Among these are endangered black rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, impalas, zebras, and hippos. The crater floor is fantastic for wildlife observation all year round and the photo opportunities here are next level. Enjoy a packed lunch in the crater before going back to safari for the entire afternoon. Afterwards, travel to the town of Karatu and arrive at the camp for a freshly prepared dinner with your group.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 9

mto wa mbu

MTO WA MBU

Relax this morning with a breakfast in the field before heading to Mto Wa Mbu with your group. You will have the rest of the day free to explore. Mto wa Mbu offers a glimpse into the life of a small East African town. You might consider joining a guided walk in the village or perhaps take a bike ride through the farming areas, spotting milling machines, local homes, and farmlands. Alternatively, gather your travel companions to check out the craft market.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Optional activities not included.

day 10

giraffe in Arusha

General trip information

Remember to bring a valid passport with an expiration date not less than 6 months at the time of entry into the country.
In the Loita Hills, you will stay in a safe camp in nature, with essential services, cold showers, and no Wi-Fi.
Camping in the Serengeti means, well, camping in the Serengeti. No barrier between you and Mother Nature means there's no fence between you and the animals. We take safety seriously and your leader will give you detailed instructions on how to set up camp in a way that doesn't attract unwanted visitors.
You will visit remote communities, set up your tents, and sometimes stay in the bush without facilities, enjoying the best views of the "Big Five". The trucks do not have air conditioning, but the sliding windows allow the breeze to enter and make it easier to photograph wildlife. Driving days can be long, but the journey is as important as the destination, and much of the fun is in the company.
