Welcome! Welcome to Lima, the capital of Peru. Your adventure begins around 2:00 PM with a welcome meeting. Then, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the Miraflores district, including Central Park (Parque Kennedy), the LarcoMar entertainment complex, and Love Park (Parque del Amor) for a magnificent view of Lima's coastline. Along the way, perhaps indulge in some Lima desserts like purple corn pudding, rice pudding, or rice zambito. Tonight, you are free to explore or dive into the city's nightlife with your new travel companions. Maybe head to the famous Tanta restaurant in downtown Lima, home of Peru's most famous chef, Gaston Acurio.
Meals not included. Flight not included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included. Hotel transfer not included.
It is very important that you attend the welcome meeting, as we will be collecting insurance details at that time. If you are going to be late, please inform your travel agent or the hotel reception. Ask at the reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will be held.

day 2

peruvian amazon rainforest

PUERTO MALDONADO (SHELTER IN THE AMAZON JUNGLE)

This morning you will fly to Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon jungle, where you will stay for two nights. Upon arrival, the lodge staff will escort you to their office in town. Here, you can leave most of your luggage in a secure storage and continue traveling with just a small backpack of essentials. You will take a motorized canoe and travel up the river to your lodge in the jungle, right in the middle of the jungle, in the Madre de Dios area. The following two days will be full of activities.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
The travel time will be approximately 7 hours.
You will stay in two different lodges in the same area. The activities may vary slightly depending on the lodge you are in. The included night excursion could be on the night of day 1 or day 2. Since both lodges are located in the same jungle area, you will see the same wildlife and your overall jungle experience will be the same at both lodges.

day 3

peruvian amazon rainforest

PUERTO MALDONADO (SHELTER IN THE AMAZON JUNGLE)

Your entire day in the Amazon jungle includes a half-day trek: it can be muddy and tiring, but what better way to explore the Amazon than on foot? There will be regular stops along the way and you will encounter diverse flora and fauna in their natural habitat. You might even spot macaws, monkeys, peccaries, jabirus, and otters, not to mention thousands of butterflies. The guides will also teach you about the medicinal properties and practical uses of local plants. For your nighttime excursion, you will venture into the darkness in search of caimans on the Tambopata River. The naturalist guide will use a spotlight to locate them on the riverbanks, so you can observe them from a respectful distance. Traveling in the darkness, on the river in the jungle, can be a bit eerie, but this atmosphere only adds to the excitement.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
You will stay in two different lodges in the same area. Activities may vary slightly depending on the lodge you are in. The included night excursion might take place on the night of day 1 or day 2. Since both lodges are located in the same jungle area, you will see the same wildlife and your overall jungle experience will be the same at both lodges.

day 4

city view of cuzco

CUZCO

Greet the jungle and fly to Cusco, where you will spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude. After dropping off your luggage and having lunch, your guide will take you for a walk in the center of Cusco. You will visit the facade of the Qoricancha temple, the local San Pedro market, the main square, the Twelve-Angled Stone, Plaza Regocijo, and Plaza San Blas. Perhaps try some donuts along the way. This afternoon is free for you to explore. Maybe go to the Cusco Cathedral or learn about the history of Saqsaywaman. Today, we recommend you minimize strenuous activities.
Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner not included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.
The direct flight between Cusco and Puerto Maldonado is temporarily suspended, and you will have a layover in Lima between Cusco and Puerto Maldonado. Your time in Cusco might be shortened, but no activities will be affected by this.

day 5

inca ruins ollantaytambo

SACRED VALLEY - OLLANTAYTAMBO

This morning, relax while driving through the Sacred Valley, on the outskirts of Cusco. Known as Wilcamayo by the Incas, this lush and fertile valley has long been the main source of food for the high Andes. Head to a local community to discover the lifestyle and activities of the valley: if your trip falls on a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, it's market day! Browse the stalls for hand-painted beads or warm ponchos and learn the local Quechua language (a few words will be considered a success). Take a short drive to Ollantaytambo. Later in the afternoon, you might go out to visit the fantastic Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. Tonight, rest at the hotel and get ready for the Inca Trail.
Breakfast and lunch included. Dinner not included. Transfers included. Excursions included.
Today's travel time will be about 6 hours, including activities.

day 6

INCA TRAIL - QUARRY TRAIL - CUSCO

Depending on the travel arrangements made before the trip, over the next four days, you will do one of the following activities: hike the Inca Trail (Route 1), the Quarry Trail (Route 2) or stay in Cusco for two days before taking the train to Aguas Calientes (Route 3).
All routes visit Machu Picchu. Most of your luggage will be stored at your hotel. If you take the Inca Trail or the Quarry Trail, the evening before leaving Cusco you will receive a small travel bag to carry your clothes for the next four days (up to 5 kg). Your team of porters will carry these bags for you, along with food and equipment for the trail. You will not have access to these items until the end of each day, as the porters will always be ahead of the group. If you are traveling to Aguas Calientes by train, you can leave most of your luggage at the hotel in Cusco and travel with just a small overnight bag to Aguas Calientes.
Route 1, Inca Trail: Travel by minivan to kilometer 82 and meet with your team of local porters, your cook, and your guide. Today you will hike uphill to the campsite, at 3100 m above sea level. Along the way, you will see the Inca sites of Ollantaytambo, Huillca Raccay, and Llactapata, as well as incredible views of the snow-capped Veronica Peak. Tonight, relax at the campsite with a nutritious meal prepared by your cook.
Route 2, Quarry Trail: Start early today and make your way to Choquequilla, a small ceremonial site where the Incas worshipped the moon. From there, you will head towards the small community near the Qory Song'o (Golden Heart) hill, where you will climb to the top for the incredible views of the Soqma Perolniyoc, Pachar, and Huarocondo valleys. There are also several sacred tombs in the area, guarded by the locals, which you can explore with your guide and even see some of the original wooden and leather structures. These remains have never been seen before by travelers, so you will be part of this exclusive experience. Continue to the Perolniyoc Waterfall lookout, where you can stop for a snack and photos. Arrive at the campsite, at 3700 meters above sea level, around lunchtime. Afterwards, set off to explore the archaeological site of Q'orimarca, which once served as a control point for the Incas.
Route 3, Cusco: Enjoy a free day in Cusco - the heart and soul of Peru. You might decide to purchase a tourist ticket, which allows entry to the numerous museums and archaeological sites of the city. Ask your leader for their recommendations.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
Lunch and dinner included today are reserved for travelers who choose the trekking options.

The Inca Trail is within reach for most people with moderate physical fitness. The trail is 45 km long and often steep, so be prepared. The daily journey usually consists of seven hours of walking (uphill and downhill), with stops for snacks and lunch. The trek usually starts at 7 am (except on day 4) and you reach the campsite around 5:00 pm. Accommodation during the trek is camping (three nights). Double tents (shared by two) and camping mats will be provided. Porters will set up the tents while the cook prepares the meals.

The Quarry Trail is suitable for those with moderate physical fitness. The hike is 26 km in total and its highest point is at 4450 m above sea level. During the trek, horses will carry your equipment and camping gear. The first two nights will be spent camping and the third night you will stay in a simple hotel. Double tents (shared by two) and camping mats will be provided.

INCA TRAIL - QUARRY TRAIL - CUSCO

Route 1, Inca Trail: Today is the most challenging day of the hike, as you will ascend a steep trail for 5 hours to the highest point of the route. Commonly known as 'Dead Woman's Pass', Warmiwanusca is situated at an altitude of 4200 m above sea level, offering incredible views of the valley below. The group will then descend to the campsite in the Pacaymayo Valley at 3650 m.
Route 2, Quarry Trail: Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the hike. A 3-hour walk takes you to the top of the first Puccaqasa pass (about 4370 m high). After enjoying the picturesque views of the valley, you will stop for lunch. Then you will hike for 2 hours to Kuychicassa – the highest pass of the trek at 4450 m. From here, you descend to the sacred site the Incas called Intipunku. This is a sun gate, where the sun will filter through at certain times of the year, and there are views of Mount Nevado Veronica all year round. The Incas built several sun gates, the most notable overlooking Machu Picchu. Head to the campsite, just a short walk away, at 3600 m. Your trek today will last about 5 hours.
Route 3, Cusco: Today is your day to spend as you wish in Cusco. You can satisfy your palate in the numerous cafes, restaurants, and markets of Cusco. The ChocoMuseo is a must-visit for those with a sweet tooth – they offer tastings and chocolate-making workshops as well.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
Lunch and dinner included today are reserved for travelers who choose the trekking options.

day 8

aguas calientes overview

INCA TRAIL - QUARRY TRAIL - AGUAS CALIENTES

Route 1, Inca Trail: Start your day with an ascent through the Pacaymayo Valley to the Runkuracay Pass (3980 m). Enjoy the view of the snow-capped Vilcabamba mountain range before descending for 2 or 3 hours to the ruins of Sayacmarca. Continue past the trail's third pass to the ruins of Phuyupatamarca (3850 m), also known as the 'City Above the Clouds'. Begin the 2-hour descent down the Inca stairs to the last night's campsite near the archaeological site of Winay Wayna.
Route 2, Quarry Trail: Today's hike will be all downhill. The first stop is the unfinished Kachiqata Quarry, where the Incas were intercepted by the Spaniards. If the weather allows, you can explore the cobblestone streets of Ollantaytambo before taking the short train ride to Aguas Calientes. Here you will meet the travelers from your group who did not go on the hike. Spend the night in a hotel before tomorrow's visit to Machu Picchu.
Route 3, Train to Aguas Calientes: After a journey to Ollantaytambo, take a train through the winding Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes. The town is nestled in the cloud forest at the foot of Machu Picchu. Here you will meet fellow travelers from your group who have taken the Quarry Trail. Spend the night in a hotel before tomorrow's visit to Machu Picchu.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Excursions included. Transfers included.
Lunch and dinner included on this day are reserved for travelers trekking the Inca Trail. There will be a lunch included for travelers trekking the Quarry Trail.

day 9

INCA TRAIL - QUARRY TRAIL - MACHU PICCHU

Route 1, Inca Trail: This is the final and most breathtaking leg of the trek to Machu Picchu. Start your day before dawn with a 4 AM breakfast. Bid farewell to the porters as they head down to the train station, then begin your hike. Walk for 2.5 hours to Intipunku (the Sun Gate), and if the weather allows, enjoy unforgettable views of the 'Lost City of the Incas' as you enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. When you arrive, the entire hike and early morning will certainly be worth it!
Routes 2 and 3, From Machu Picchu to Cusco: Catch an early morning bus to Machu Picchu at 5.30 AM. The city was built around 1440 AD as a country retreat for Inca nobility, but there's evidence that the land had been an Inca sacred site for much longer. Take a guided tour among the ruins of temples, palaces, and residential districts.
For all travelers, after taking advantage of the seemingly endless photo opportunities, it's time to catch the bus to Aguas Calientes, where you'll stop for a shared lunch. From here, take a scenic train ride to Ollantaytambo, then return to Cusco, arriving in the evening.
Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner not provided. Excursions included. Transfers included.
According to the regulations for visiting Machu Picchu, all visitors must follow a predetermined route within the site. This route must be followed in one direction only, and once visitors exit, re-entry is not allowed. Personal exploration is not permitted.

For safety reasons, the last checkpoint for all trekkers does not open before 5 in the morning. The estimated time of arrival at the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu for Inca Trail trekkers is around 7:30 AM. For Quarry Trail trekkers and train travelers, the first bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu leaves at 5:30 AM. The estimated time of arrival is between 6 and 6:30 AM. Sunrise at Machu Picchu occurs approximately at 5:30 AM, so it is not possible to arrive in time for the sunrise.

Due to safety policy, our leaders are expressly forbidden from advising or assisting in booking trips to the ruins on top of Wayna Picchu mountain.

Important things to know

Trip features

This tour is suitable for people aged between 18 and 35 years.

General trip information

Remember to bring a valid passport with an expiration date not less than 6 months from the time of entry into the country.
On this journey, you will camp along the Inca Trail and spend the night in a homestay on Lake Titicaca. Both have very basic communal sanitary facilities (no showers). All of this is part of the adventure of being in the midst of nature!
During the four-day hike along the Inca Trail or the three-day trek along the Inca Quarry, you might be joined by travelers who could be over 35 years old.
The Amazon jungle can be very hot and humid. Light cotton clothing is the best way to deal with it. Also, don't forget a tropical insect repellent! It's also important to wear sunscreen and always drink plenty of water.
This trip includes many excursions and walks, so it requires a moderate level of physical fitness. There are several different trail options to suit your interests and physical abilities. Please bring sturdy footwear.
Due to the high altitude of many places, some people may suffer from mountain sickness. While some are not affected at all, if you are, make sure to drink plenty of water and not to overexert yourself. If possible, arrive a few days early to give yourself time to acclimatize.
Travelers who choose different ways to reach Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail, or Train) will not follow the same paths within Machu Picchu. This means that you might not be able to take photos together with a view of Machu Picchu. This applies to travelers in the same booking or in separate bookings.
This journey is a great way to see a lot in a short span of time and can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might want to take a look at other tours in our catalog.
