CASABLANCA

Peace be upon you! Welcome to Morocco! We will meet directly at the hotel at 6:00 PM for an initial welcome meeting! Free time available to freely visit Casablanca and to explore the city with its art deco buildings and the modern masterpiece, the Hassan II Mosque. We can explore the old medina and the city walls, visit the Quartiers des Habous, the new medina, and end the day with a walk along the Corniche, watching the locals play soccer on the beach or sipping a glass of sweet mint tea at one of the many excellent cafes.
There are no meals included on this day.

RABAT – MEKNES

Our journey in Morocco begins with an early morning 1-hour train ride to the historic city of Rabat. Rabat's history is long and colorful, having hosted Roman settlements, pirates, and, more recently, the Moroccan parliament. It contains many beautiful Arab monuments, some dating back to the Almohad and Merenid dynasties from the 10th to the 15th century, and others that are much older. We spend a few hours wandering through the city's historic center, then walk up to the Kasbah des Oudaias and enjoy the view over the Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards, we continue to Meknes with a 3-hour train ride.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 3

Meknes

MEKNES – VOLUBILIS – FEZ

This morning is free to explore Meknes. In the 17th century, Sultan Moulay Ismail transformed Meknes from a provincial town into a spectacular imperial city: we visit its immense granary Heri es Souani, a colossal architectural work, and the now crumbling imperial palaces of the city. Later, we board a private minibus and travel for 1 hour through gentle hills and olive groves to the archaeological site of Volubilis. Upon arrival, we take a tour among the ruins with a local guide. We resume our 2-hour journey to Fez, the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco: vibrant, noisy, fascinating, and overwhelming. It's a feast for the senses, with a huge, well-preserved medieval old town that is the mother of all medinas!
Breakfast and lunch included, dinner on your own. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 4

made

FEZ

Our vacation in Morocco continues with a guided group walking tour of the old city, locally known as Fez el Bali, bustling with artisans, markets, tanneries, and mosques. We watch donkeys laden with goods and explore the special sections that divide the souk. Not to be missed is the Medersa Bou Inania: one of the city's most beautiful buildings, recently restored and now open to tourists. We visit Medresse el Attarine and the stunning Funduk Nejjarine: an 18th-century inn beautifully restored.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 5

Midelt

MIDELT

This morning we board a private minibus and leave behind the intensity of the city for the simplicity of the picturesque Middle Atlas mountains. We head south into the hinterland through a variety of spectacular scenery: fertile valleys and forests in contrast with arid and rocky landscapes. We cross the cedar forests that are home to the Barbary macaques, the only monkey in North Africa, and reach our destination Midelt, a market town, originally established as a base for the mining activity of the area and surrounded by agricultural land and orchards. We may attend an optional traditional music performance in Midelt. Tonight we stay at Ksar Timnay. This fantastic accommodation is inspired by a traditional kasbah and is an ideal base for our tour through the Middle Atlas. We relax in the spacious rooms and get ready for some desert trekking tomorrow!
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional folk music show.

day 6

sahara

SAHARA

Our incredible tour of Morocco continues with a 6-hour journey to the mighty Sahara. Since we'll have the comfort of our private minivan, there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the views of kasbahs and palm groves. Once we arrive at our destination, we'll drop off our luggage at our overnight camp on the edge of the desert and hop on a camel for a 1-hour sunset ride in the desert. We'll spend the night at a desert camp under the stars. Our local friends will prepare a hearty feast, so all we have to do is sit back and relax!
Breakfast and dinner included; lunch not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included. The camp is basic, with bedding and essential sanitary facilities provided. The blankets supplied are generally sufficient for most travelers from April to October, but you might want to bring your own sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially during the months between November and March. There is no electricity available at the camp, so it is important to come prepared with phones, cameras, and anything else you might need fully charged. If you prefer not to take the camel ride, it is possible to walk alongside the caravan on the sand for about an hour. The walk is not very demanding and can be managed with a minimum of physical preparation.

day 7

todra

TODRA

This morning we climb the nearest dune for a spectacular sunrise over the Sahara, we enjoy a rich and tasty traditional breakfast and start our journey towards the Todra Gorge. Along the way, we visit the El Khorbat oasis museum before continuing to the beautiful Todra Valley which follows the slopes of the Atlas Mountains and is dotted with mud-brick villages perched on the slopes. The extraordinary scenery - vast green valleys and rocks carved into breathtaking formations by the wind - will be our home for the next two nights.
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included.

day 8

TODRA

Today we have some free time to explore the Todra Valley. We can take a guided hike through the gorge and the nearby mountain pass. There are a couple of circuits to choose from, the most popular being a 10 km loop that takes about 4 hours. Accompanied by a local guide, we'll follow a trail that's slightly undulating here and there, but not too challenging if you're in good shape. During the walk, we'll cross Amazigh villages, meeting locals along the way and perhaps having the chance to share a cup of mint tea. The surrounding mountains and the famous Valley of Roses in the distance make for a sensational backdrop. To fully enjoy the walk, make sure to have hiking boots or sturdy sneakers, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of water. After the trek, we'll join some local women in their mud-brick kasbah for lunch: it will be a fantastic opportunity to see how people live in this largely unchanged culture. For those interested, there will be an optional activity to enjoy the swimming pool at the hotel with views of the lush palm groves and high cliffs.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included. Optional activities excluded.

day 9

ait benhaddou

AIT BENHADDOU

We continue our journey south for 4 hours towards Ait Benhaddou. The scenic drive will take us past ancient kasbah ruins, former colonial military outposts, stark mountains, and valleys of palms and irrigated fields. We take a lunch break in Ouarzazate, where movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, and Black Hawk Down were filmed. Time permitting, we may also have the chance to take a tour of the Atlas Movie Studios. Afterwards, we proceed to our destination of Ait Benhaddou. Today, its grand kasbah, a fine example of earthen architecture, has been declared a World Heritage Site. In the late afternoon, why not enjoy Morocco's most famous cuisine: couscous and tagine!
Breakfast and dinner included. Lunch not included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 10

AIT BENHADDOU - ESSAOUIRA

After having breakfast, we head from Ait Benhaddou to Essaouira, where we will have some free time to explore the city.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Transfers included.

day 11

boats moored at the port of Essaouira at sunset

ESSAOUIRA

We start our day with a morning walk through the valleys and trails of the beautiful Atlas Mountains (weather permitting). Later, we head west towards the Atlantic coast and visit the ancient fishing village of Essaouira, a city where the medina brushes against the Atlantic Ocean. The sandstone walkways contrast with the white houses and the bright blue sky, complementing the sand of the surrounding beaches and dunes. This city of artists once had significant British and Jewish populations, and its charm has captivated people like Orson Welles and Jimi Hendrix, who (according to local legend) spent much of his time here in the 60s. We may also engage in optional activities such as: Watching the daily seafood auctions or visiting one of the small local cafes and watching the people. In the evening, we can meet up with the group to share a meal and discover this enchanting city by night.
Breakfast and lunch included. Dinner not included. Transfers included. Excursions included. Due to the earthquake in some inland areas of Morocco, the itinerary may change for this day, please contact us for more information.

day 12

Essaouira

ESSAOUIRA

Today we join a local guide for a walking tour through the old medina, the Jewish mellah, the port, and the skala. Afterwards, we can enjoy some free time to immerse ourselves in the city's atmosphere. The narrow streets of Essaouira are perfect for strolling. Their size discourages cars, and as you walk through the city, it feels as though little has changed since the days of the sea pirates. We can visit numerous shops and the interesting art galleries that make this small town a particularly pleasant place to relax for a few days!
Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner not provided. Transfers included. Excursions included. Optional activities not included.

day 13

marrakech

MARRAKECH

This morning we are taking a shared 3-hour bus journey to Marrakech: an ancient exotic city wrapped in European modernity. Marrakech is a feast for the senses. Let's be seduced by the enticing aromas and bright colors of the spice markets, the sounds of the musicians, the rich folds of the carpets, the delicious foods, the acrobats, and the fragrant gardens!

In the seemingly endless mosaic of souqs, each one is dedicated to a separate trade: pottery, woodworking, copper, leather, carpets, and spices. Watch skilled artisans perfect their craft, visit the famous Koutoubia Mosque and its 12th-century minaret, which was the famous prototype for the Giralda tower in Seville. Please be aware that if you choose not to participate in these shopping experiences, we assure you that there is no obligation and if you indicate your desire not to participate, the guide will help you find a suitable alternative during that time.
