The journey across the 13 km stretch of sea separating the two islands takes just 45 minutes. Bonifacio, like many port cities, boasts a rich history. This ancient trading city, established between 823 and 833 by the Marquis of Tuscany, is divided into the 'marina' quarter, the lower city, and the 'upper city' perched on a promontory.
